The fastest way, step by step

The fastest way in full, leg by leg. The time spent moving is separated from the time spent getting to it and away from it, because both are part of the journey and only one of them is a timetable.

What matters on this route

The flight is about an hour, and Berlin Brandenburg is well connected by train to the centre; door to door you are looking at around four hours.

The train goes via Hamburg with one change, about seven hours in all. Direct trains via the Fehmarn belt will return when the tunnel opens; until then Hamburg is the way.

The direct coach takes seven to nine hours, some of it on the Rødby to Puttgarden ferry, and is usually the cheapest way. Overnight departures exist.
