What matters on this route

Eurostar runs from St Pancras to Gare du Nord in about two hours and a quarter, with a check-in that is much lighter than an airport. Counting the airport runs at both ends, flying is slower door to door for almost everyone starting in central London, and it is rarely cheaper once you are inside the last week.

Book the train early: fares rise steeply as the departure approaches. Off-peak trains in the middle of the day are usually the cheapest.

The coach exists and is very cheap, but it takes eight to nine hours through the tunnel or across the Channel on a ferry. Overnight departures make sense; a daytime coach only if the fare is the whole point.
