The fastest way, step by step

The fastest way in full, leg by leg. The time spent moving is separated from the time spent getting to it and away from it, because both are part of the journey and only one of them is a timetable.

What matters on this route

Flights between London and Dublin are among the most frequent in Europe, and the flight itself is a little over an hour. Dublin Airport is a bus ride from the centre, not a train, so allow for that.

The rail and sail route runs from Euston to Holyhead in under four hours, then a ferry of about three and a quarter hours into Dublin Port. It takes most of a day but is relaxed, and through fares that cover both the train and the ferry are sold.

A coach and ferry combination via Liverpool is the cheap option and takes the longest, with an overnight crossing.
