The fastest way, step by step

The fastest way in full, leg by leg. The time spent moving is separated from the time spent getting to it and away from it, because both are part of the journey and only one of them is a timetable.

What matters on this route

Coaches leave every half hour or better and take four and a half to five hours on the M2 motorway. They are comfortable, cheap and reliable; for most people this is the way.

The train to Rawalpindi, which serves Islamabad, takes four and a half to five hours on the faster services and is a pleasant alternative if a station is convenient at both ends.

The flight is about an hour, but with both airports well outside the city it saves little and costs more.
