The fastest way, step by step

The fastest way in full, leg by leg. The time spent moving is separated from the time spent getting to it and away from it, because both are part of the journey and only one of them is a timetable.

What matters on this route

Flights take under an hour and are frequent. Manchester Airport has its own railway station, which makes the airport run easier than at most cities.

The rail and sail route goes from Manchester to Holyhead, usually with one change, in about two and a half to three hours, then the ferry to Dublin in a little over three hours. It is a full day but a good one, and it avoids the airport entirely.
